What are TACHS Tests?

TACHS stands for Test for Admissions into Catholic High Schools. It’s used by schools in the Archdiocese of New York, Rockville Center, and Brooklyn and Queens. All eighth graders hoping to enroll in area Catholic high schools must take the TACHS test as part of the admissions process. Offered annually each November, the exam covers four main content areas: math, reading, language, and abilities. TACHS exam prep should begin well in advance of the November test date.

Who Should Take TACHS Tests?

Only rising ninth graders should take the TACHS test – if they plan to attend a Catholic high school, of course. Students hoping to transfer to a Catholic high school as a sophomore, junior, or senior do not need to take the TACHS. It’s used solely as an admissions tool for incoming first-year high school students. Not sure whether or not you should take the TACHS? Passing Scores on TACHS Tests

Believe it or not, there’s no passing or failing the TACHS test. Instead, each Catholic high school sets its own standard TACHS score required for admission. You’ll have the option to send your scores to up to three different schools. Check with your preferred Catholic high school for the score you’ll need to aim for when taking the TACHS. A TACHS practice test is an excellent way to determine how hard you’ll need to study to get into your dream school.
